Inside Outside D&G - Multimedia Exhibition on Commercial Sexual Exploitation

Over 200 people visited Inside-Outside D&G!

The Inside Outside D&G Exhibition, which provides the stories and voices of women involved in street prostitution, escorting, brothels and saunas across Scotland, took place during September 2019 at The Oven (previously known as the Baker's Oven) in Dumfries Town Centre and was visited by over 200 people. Most participants were very impressed and interacted positively with the exhibition. Comments included:

• Sad so sad
• Very powerful. Very thought provoking.
• I found the display very simple with the masks but interesting.  Staff were very knowledgeable, honest and likable.
• This story need to be told and is has been told very well.   A poor reflection of our society right now - will anything ever change.
• Well thought out and considered exhibition.  Excellent
• The exhibition said it all for me really.  
• Very powerful exhibition that deals with difficult subjects in a human way.  Really strikes home.
• Fantastic exhibition which shows what people in the sex industry do is not always a choice.

 

Inside Outside D&G was result of the collaboration between the Dumfries and Galloway Violence Against Women and Girls Standing Group on behalf of the Dumfries and Galloway Public Protection Partnership,  Dumfries and Galloway Community Justice Partnership,  The Oven (part of the Midsteeple Quarter Project), the Women's Support Project, and ENCOMPASS, a network of Scottish Agencies who work directly with those involved in the sex industry.

This powerful and hard-hitting exhibition is a multimedia experience that includes photographs taken by the women as well as films, artwork and podcasts representing their experiences and provides an invaluable opportunity for local residents to expand their understanding of commercial sexual exploitation and how this industry impacts on the women involved in it and on wider society.
