Child Sexual Exploitation - Awareness Raising Campaign
Dumfries and Galloway Public Protection Committee has identified the need for an awareness raising campaign within Dumfries and Galloway on Child sexual exploitation (CSE).
This campaign will be undertaken in partnership with NSPCC Scotland colleagues, and will launch on 18th March 2019.
Child Sexual Exploitation is a type of Child Sexual Abuse. Children in exploitative situations and relationships receive something such as gifts, money or affection as a result of performing sexual activities or others performing sexual activities on them. Children or young people may be tricked into believing they're in a loving, consensual relationship. They might be invited to parties and given drugs and alcohol. They may also be groomed and exploited online.
This campaign will therefore seek to raise awareness of CSE among children, young people, parents, carer, staff and the wider community. It will highlight how to spot the signs of abuse and where to turn for help. It will also have a preventative approach, encouraging children and young people to think about what a healthy relationship looks like and to encourage them to speak out if they have concerns or feel they are being forced to do something they are not comfortable with.
By combining the use of printed materials, social media and traditional media with workshop delivery we will ensure that the messages are delivered in a way that is relevant to all.
